È difficile parlare di Evertz senza tenere conto della lunga storia nella tecnologia digitale e del ruolo importante, anzi decisivo, nella progettazione e produzione dei router dalle migliori prestazioni sul mercato televisivo.
In occasione della Evertz Technology Conference IP Solutions for Media, organizzata da Professional Show, distributore esclusivo per l’Italia dei prodotti dell’azienda canadese, recentemente tenutasi a Roma, abbiamo incontrato Ray Kasprzyk, Router Product Specialist Evertz Microsystems.
DP: Ray, conosciamo la lunga tradizione di traguardi che Evertz ha raggiunto nella progettazione e produzione di router che sono diventati un punto di riferimento per la tecnologia televisiva. Puoi parlarci della produzione attuale e di ciò che Evertz ha in serbo per i suoi clienti?
RAY: Evertz è un’azienda che continua a supportare e sviluppare i propri prodotti. Nella famiglia dei Router Evertz, abbiamo due nuove schede IO che abbiamo appena rilasciato negli ultimi anni. Le schede HBX e SCX. Dedichiamo un paio di momenti per approfondire la tecnologia HBX. La scheda di input e output HBX sostituisce essenzialmente tutte le nostre vecchie schede, ovvero le nostre schede verdi che erano efficienti e di base.
La nuova scheda HBX non solo sostituisce la scheda EQX-G e EQX-GX, ma c’è qualcosa di speciale nella scheda HBX che non siamo mai stati in grado di fare sulla piattaforma EQX prima d’ora, ovvero la tecnologia 12 Gbit. Sì, la HBX ha la tecnologia 12 Gbit su di essa. Non solo questo, ma ha IPGS con licenza d’uso. Quindi hai un pezzo di hardware con diverse licenze che puoi sbloccare a seconda delle tue esigenze. Cosa significa questo?
Questo significa che puoi acquistare una normale scheda SDI IO in qualsiasi momento per le tue esigenze di trasmissione oggi, ma in futuro, se vuoi passare a 12 Gb o se hai bisogno di funzionalità IP, siamo ancora coperti e non devi pagare per queste funzionalità in anticipo. D’altra parte, abbiamo le schede SCX che sono le nostre schede semplici, il che significa essenzialmente che sono le necessità di base.
Le schede SCX supportano tre Gb e non hanno le funzionalità 12 Gb o IPG. Qual è la differenza e perché l’abbiamo creata? Beh, la SCX è semplice, il che significa che il prezzo è più basso, ma se vuoi una soluzione futura e vuoi quella capacità IP, allora stai guardando le schede HBX. Parlando di quella capacità IP, questo componente dei Router Evertz introduce anche il flusso di lavoro ibrido ora.
Everts fa IP da molto tempo quindi il flusso di lavoro ibrido non è nuovo per noi ma questa scheda arriva anche con un TDM a compromesso zero. Quindi ottieni i tuoi 18 flussi e questo a tre Gb e ottieni anche il tuo TDM. Quindi tornando a quella soluzione ibrida significa che potresti avere la tua vecchia infrastruttura e sistema SDI insieme una nuova edizione IP completa di altri sistemi ibridi a 12 GB.
Abbiamo anche rilasciato il nostro ultimo prodotto nel 2022, il Router Evertz NEXX. NEXX è un router SDI da 5RU 384 per 384 con ingressi e uscite HDBNC. Ora questo router è speciale perché ha lo shuffling audio del canale mono e anche un multi-viewer quindi come facciamo lo shuffling del canale mono?
Fondamentalmente c’è un XC e quell’XC ha due punti di incrocio su di esso è come un punto di incrocio ibrido quindi hai il punto di incrocio audio e il punto di incrocio video quindi tutti i segnali in ingresso al router vengono de-embedded e il video e Inc vengono inviati al tuo punto di incrocio video e il tuo audio viene inviato al punto di incrocio audio, con questo ottieni un vero shuffling audio del canale mono.
Non solo questo, ma abbiamo anche due SFP su quel NEXX-IO-C1.
Vediamo le principali caratteristiche di questa scheda:
Router Evertz NEXX-IO-C1
- 32x ingressi HDBNC per 32x uscite HDBNC
- 1×1 MADI e 1×1 TDM
- Sincronizzazione frame 3G su tutti gli ingressi 32x o sincronizzazione frame UHD/12G su 16x ingressi
- 4x multiviewer lightweight
Un caso d’uso per questo potrebbe essere una console Studer o per contenitori TDM o EMR in modo che sia un link analogico, ecc.
Entrando nel Router Evertz NEXX quindi non solo abbiamo la tua soluzione audio completa e la tua soluzione video completa ma in aggiunta abbiamo i multiviewer quindi i multiviewer sul NEXX-IO-C1 sono leggeri il che significa essenzialmente che ottieni esattamente ciò di cui hai bisogno, le necessità giuste.
Funzionalità con licenza per acquistare ciò di cui hai bisogno ora e futureproof adattandoti al tuo prossimo progetto. Una configurazione adatta per l’aggiornamento della produzione da SDI a IP, da 1080p a single-wire 12G o qualcosa di intermedio. Sblocca la sincronizzazione dei frame, UHD, multiviewer e altro come desiderato.
NEXX utilizza con orgoglio il nostro sistema di controllo, fornendo un pannello di controllo tradizionale accoppiato con MAGNUM-TALLY e per interfacce utente orientate ai contesti locali o remoti avanzati.
Essendo un’interfaccia principale/backplane passiva e modulare per design, NEXX fornisce un percorso robusto per integrare la tecnologia futura, proteggendo il tuo investimento e garantendo che questa piattaforma possa continuare a crescere man mano che le tue esigenze aumentano.
Ora parliamo dei Multiviewer lightweight. Ecco le principali caratteristiche:
- Multiviewer con licenza individuale
- Quattro multiviewer 16×1 su ogni modulo
- UMD statiche e dinamiche con Image Video e TSL UMDv5
- Timecode
- Barre audio visive
- Possibilità di posizionare UMD e barre audio all’interno o all’esterno del video attivo
- 35 layout fissi
Hai bisogno di un’uscita multiviewer più pesante e ricca di funzionalità su uno o tutti i tuoi monitor? Mescola e abbina multiviewer leggeri e pesanti con il nostro modulo X30, il NEXX-670-X30-HW-V2.
Per i multiviewer i layouts sono limitati, il che significa che hai solo 35 layout.
Stiamo anche ricevendo altre due app nel 2023 e cioè l’EV IPG3 G e l’EV IPG 12 G, quindi come puoi vedere, il NEXX è ancora in fase di sviluppo a tutti gli effetti e non abbiamo intenzione di fermarci qui soprattutto con tutte queste potenti app che potremmo mettere sull’EV 670. Siamo appena all’inizio.
Una nota: il router Xenon è alla fine del suo ciclo di vita. Abbiamo iniziato a spedirlo all’inizio degli anni 2000, ora abbiamo ancora prodotti a magazzino, ma una volta che è andato è andato. Quindi, supporteremo ancora un po’ Xenon ma cercheremo di fare uno sforzo per sostituire Xenon con i più recenti router.

It is difficult to talk about Evertz without taking into account the long history in digital technology and the important, indeed decisive role in the design and manufacturing of the best performing routers on the television market.
On the occasion of the Evertz Technology Conference IP Solutions for Media, organized by Professional Show, the exclusive distributor for Italy of the products of the Canadian company, recently held in Rome, we met Ray Kasprzyk, Router Evertz Specialist.
DP: Ray, we know the long tradition of milestones that Evertz has achieved in the design and manufacturing routers that have become a reference point for television technology. Can you tell us about the current production and what Evertz has in store for its customers?
RAY: Evertz is a company that is still continuing support and develop our products.
In the Router Evertz family we have two new IO cards that we just released within the last couple of years. The HBX and SCX cards. Let’s take a couple moments to dive into the HBX technology. The HBX input and output card basically replaces all of our older cards so that would be our green cards which were the efficient cards that would be our basic.
The new board HBX, not only replace the EQX-G and the EQX-GX card, but there’s something special about the HBX card that we’ve never been able to do on the EQX platform before, and that is 12 Gbit technology.
Yes, the HBX has 12 Gbit tech on it. Not only that, but it has licensable IPGS. So, you have one piece of Hardware with multiple different licenses that you can unlock depending on your needs.
What does this mean? This means that you can buy a normal SDI IO card at any point and time for your broadcast needs today but, in the future, if you want to go 12 Gb, or if you need IP capabilities, we still have you covered and you don’t have to pay for those features up front on the flip side we have the SCX cards now I like to think that the SCX cards are our simple cards which basically means that they are the Bare Bones necessities.
The SCX cards support three Gb and they don’t have the 12 Gb or the IPG capabilities.
What’s the difference and why did we create it well the SCX is simple, which means your price is lower but if you want a future proof and you want that IP capability then you’re looking at the HBX cards.
Now speaking of that IP capability this also introduces the hybrid workflow now.
Everts has done IP for a very long time now so the hybrid workflow is nothing new to us
but this card comes at a zero compromise TDM as well so you get your 18 streams and that’s three Gb and you get your TDM as well so circling back to that hybrid solution
it means that you could have your old SDI infrastructure and system along with
a complete new IP Edition but speaking of other 12 GB and hybrid systems.
We also released our latest product released in 2022 is the NEXX router.
Router Evertz NEXX is a 5ru 384 by 384 SDI router with HDBNC inputs and outputs. Now this router is special because it has mono Channel audio shuffling and a multi-viewer as well so how do we do the mono Channel shuffling basically there is one XC and that XC has two cross points on it it’s like a hybrid Cross Point so you have the audio Cross Point and the video Cross Point.
So all of the signals coming into the router are de-embedded and the video and Inc are sent to your video Crosspoint and your audio is sent to the audio Cross Point with this you get true mono Channel audio shuffling.
Not only that but we also have two SFPs on that NEXX-IO-C1. Let’s show the main features of this card:
- 32x HDBNC inputs by 32x HDBNC outputs
- 1×1 MADI and 1×1 TDM
- 3G frame sync on all 32x inputs or UHD/12G frame sync on 16x inputs
- 4x lightweight multiviewers
A use case for this would be a Studer console or for TDM or EMR containers so that is a link analog, Etc.
Coming into the Router Evertz NEXX so not only do we have your complete audio workflow figured out and your video workflow figured out but in addition we have multi-viewers so the multiviewers on the NEXX-IO-C1 are lightweight which basically means that you get exactly what you need the necessities right so.
Licensable features to buy what you need now and futureproof by adapting to your next project. A configuration suited for upgrading the production from SDI to IP, 1080p to single-wire 12G, or something in between. Unlock frame sync, UHD, multiviewers, and more as desired.
The Router Evertz NEXX proudly uses our control system, providing traditional control panel coupled with MAGNUM-TALLY and for advanced local or remote context oriented user interfaces.
Being a passive main interface/backplane and modular by design, NEXX provides a sturdy path to integrate future technology, protecting your investment and ensuring this platform can continue to grow as your needs arise.
Now let’s talk about the Lightweight Multiviewers. Here the main features:
- Individually licensed multiviewers
- Four 16×1 multiviewers on each module
- Static and dynamic UMDs with Image Video and TSL UMDv5
- Timecode
- Visual audio bars
- Ability to place the UMD and audio bars inside or outside active video
- 35x fixed layouts
- Need a heavier, more feature-rich multiviewer output on some or all of your monitors? Mix and match light and heavyweight multiviewers with our X30 module, the NEXX-670-X30-HW-V2.
- For the multi-viewers they are limited, which means that you only have 35 layouts.
We also are getting two other apps in 2023 and that is the EV IPG3 G and the EV IPG 12 G so as you can see, the Router Evertz NEXX is still being in development full-fledge and we don’t plan on stopping here especially with all of these potential apps that we could put on the EV 670 we’re just getting started the Xenon router is end of life.
We started shipping it in the early 2000s now we only have so much inventory and once it’s gone it’s gone so we are having some support for the Xenon but it is best effort replacing the Xenon is our next router.
