At NAB Show 2026, RTS Intercom Systems presented two major innovations for the world of professional broadcast and television production communication: the NOMAD wireless beltpack and the RTS Edge software solution. Both products are designed to meet the flexibility and mobility demands that characterize contemporary workflows, from fixed control rooms to remote productions, from live entertainment to outdoor shoots. A range that further consolidates RTS’s position as a benchmark in the professional intercom sector.
RTS EDGE: THE VIRTUALIZED KEY PANEL THAT ADAPTS TO ANY NETWORK
Among the innovations presented by RTS at NAB 2026 is RTS Edge, a significant evolution within the product family ecosystem of the company. The previous year had seen the introduction of RVON, the digitalized matrix solution hosted on AWS by the manufacturer. With RTS Edge a further step is taken: it is an endpoint device featuring multiple pages that functions essentially as a virtualized key panel for smartphones.
What are the main differences compared to the previous version?
The substantial difference compared to previous solutions lies in the ability to point the device directly toward an ODIN node. Thanks to this feature, it is possible to use 5G, 4G or LTE connectivity to connect directly to the matrix, without the need to go through AWS. The AWS route remains available as an option, but RTS Edge positions itself as a more direct and flexible alternative, compatible with Android, iOS browsers and all major desktop browsers.
One of the anticipated features is SSO (Single Sign-On) support, scheduled for release in July. In the meantime, access is via username and password. A particularly interesting use case concerns the most dynamic operational scenarios: if a director is using an iPad and finds it necessary to switch to a smartphone, simply logging in triggers the automatic transfer of the key panel to the new device. RTS Edge uses a single port and is compatible with ODIN, with the ATOM card and the RVON card, with planned expansion to other product lines.
RTS NOMAD: THE NEXT-GENERATION 2.4 GHz BELTPACK FOR MOBILE PRODUCTION
The other major highlight of NAB 2026 is NOMAD, the new wireless beltpack from the RTS range, available from the very date of the trade show presentation. It is a 2.4 GHz beltpack with four keys and four channels, with the ability to scroll through pages to reach up to 16 different channels or party lines.
What are the construction features that make it suitable for use in extreme environments?
NOMAD is IP65 certified, making it waterproof and dust-resistant, and integrates an external speaker. Connectivity is ensured by a hot-swappable XLR interface, an integrated flashlight, a USB-C connector and an AUX jack. The declared battery life is 18 hours.
The system also includes a new charging case and a new access point. The latter supports native PoE technology, is capable of powering up to ten beltpacks per single access point and supports fiber optic connectivity. A battery-powered option is also available for mounting in remote configurations. The access point offers six different installation modes, with various screw types, an integrated heat sink and a specific version for outdoor use.
